Police have arrested a man after two mattresses were set alight outside properties in Radford.
Patrolling officers were flagged down by members of the public after a fire was spotted on Peveril Street at around 12.24am on Wednesday (10 September).
When officers arrived, they found a mattress alight outside a property on the street.
Using fire extinguishers, officers brought the flames under control.
While tackling the first fire, they were also alerted to a second incident further along the street involving another mattress that had also been set alight.
Working alongside Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, both fires were extinguished and no injuries were reported.
Following enquiries, our officers arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of two counts of arson with intent to endanger life shortly afterwards.
During a search of the suspect, they also recovered a quantity of suspected Class A drugs and a knife.
He was further arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
Sergeant Rishi Thobhani said: “Had it not been for the swift response of our officers and the rapid actions of our fire service colleagues, these fires could have spread to nearby properties and caused significant damage or injury.
“Needless to say, we are treating this incident extremely seriously and have quickly arrested a suspect in connection with it.
“Our investigation remains ongoing and we would ask anyone who witnessed what happened, or who has CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage, to get in touch with us.”
