Man attacked by group with wooden pole in Southwell

Three suspects have been arrested after a man was reportedly assaulted with a wooden pole.

Officers attended Church Street, Southwell, where they found someone lying injured on the floor.

The victim – a man in his thirties – had reportedly just been attacked with a piece of wood by multiple people.

He suffered a fractured eye socket during the assault, which reportedly happened around 1.10am on Sunday (28 June).

Having conducted local inquiries, officers then visited a nearby property, where they identified three people matching the description of those involved.

A 48-year-old man and two 17-year-old boys were all subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Detective Inspector Luke Waller, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Having initially been called about an assault in progress, our officers found a man on the floor injured when they arrived.

“We’re led to believe a wooden pole was used to attack the victim, who was duly left with a nasty facial injury as a result.

“It really should go without saying but the level of violence demonstrated here was completely unacceptable and has no place in our society.

“While we’ve made three arrests in connection with this incident, our inquiries are still very much ongoing, so we’d ask anyone who knows what happened to get in touch.

“In addition to any witnesses, we want to hear from anyone who may have inadvertently recorded footage of the assault on their CCTV, doorbell, dash-cam, or mobile phones.”

Information can be shared directly with the police by calling 101, quoting incident 60 of 28 June 2026, while Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
