A 31-year-old man who subjected his former partner to repeated assaults has been sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court.
Christopher Dawe carried out a prolonged attack on the woman at her home in the Rushcliffe area during the early hours of 12 February 2022. The victim suffered extensive bruising across much of her body as a result of the incident.
Following the assault, officers launched an investigation while providing support to the victim. Dawe was subsequently charged with multiple offences and placed under bail conditions, which included a warning to stay away from the victim.
Despite these conditions, Dawe continued to intimidate and threaten her, bombarding her with messages and later assaulting her again during a meeting.
Dawe, of Castle Orchard, Duffield, Derbyshire, pleaded guilty to five counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one count of assault by beating.
On Monday, 16 December, he was sentenced to 20 months in prison, suspended for 18 months.
Detective Constable Stephen Dunn, of Nottinghamshire Police, commented on the case:
“Dawe’s threatening and violent behaviour towards the victim was cowardly and persistent. This kind of violence against women is absolutely appalling, and we will always work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice and safeguard victims.
“We recognise that some vulnerable victims of domestic abuse may feel apprehensive about engaging with the legal process. We understand these concerns and work closely with our partners to provide the necessary support to help them seek justice.”
