Man harassing public in Old Market Square breached dispersal order

A 21-year-old man is due to appear in court accused of breaching a dispersal order in Nottingham city centre.

Officers were called to Old Market Square at 12:10 am on Saturday (2 August) following reports of a man harassing members of public.

A suspect was located and issued with a Section 35 dispersal order, which directed him to leave the area – as specified by a dispersal zone – and not return for 24 hours.

The man left the area but was spotted again in Old Market Square a short time later.

He was therefore arrested and taken into custody.

Callum McBrearty, of no fixed address, has been charged with failing to comply with a Section 35 direction excluding a person from an area.

He was granted bail and is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 21 August.

Sergeant Liz Johnson, of the City Centre neighbourhood policing team, said:

“We are working hard to clamp down on antisocial behaviour in city centre and will continue to use this kind of order when we believe it to be necessary.

“We want people to feel safe in Nottingham and that is why we will not hesitate to take action against anyone who causes disorder in the city centre, whether during the day or the night-time economy.”
