West Bridgford Junior School is celebrating an exciting addition to its outdoor space this academic year with the installation of a striking new wooden amphitheatre, created in partnership with playground specialists Red Monkey.
The impressive structure—now a standout feature of the school grounds—marks a significant step forward in a wider programme of playground development. Designed to be both functional and inspiring, the amphitheatre will be used for outdoor learning, small performances, storytelling, and as a calm, reflective area for pupils to enjoy during breaktimes.

Deputy Headteacher Beth Arnold, who led the project, said the space is already proving transformative:
“We wanted to create an area that nurtures creativity, supports wellbeing, and provides new opportunities for learning beyond the classroom. The amphitheatre has quickly become a much-loved part of school life, and we’re excited to see how the children use it as the seasons change.”

A large portion of the funding for the project came from the school’s Home School Association (HSA), whose tireless fundraising efforts made the development possible. From community events to parent-led initiatives, the HSA continues to play a vital role in enhancing school resources and enriching opportunities for pupils.

The original vision for the redesigned playground was crafted by local architect James Brindley of Design Haus, who kindly donated his design services to the school. He and his team produced an innovative and engaging layout tailored specifically to the needs of the school community, which took into account the views and wishes of the pupils. The new amphitheatre is one of the first major elements of that plan to be brought to life.

As further phases of playground development get underway, West Bridgford Junior School looks forward to continuing its mission of creating welcoming, imaginative, and inspiring spaces for all children to learn and play.
