Nottingham-based architectural practice Design Haus has taken up residence in West Bridgford’s Portland Road.
Design Haus is an award-winning RIBA-chartered architectural practice led by Architect and West Bridgford resident James Brindley.
They offer an innovative, technology-led design service to clients in Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands.
Their portfolio of projects ranges from residential extensions and new-build houses to bespoke commercial projects such as restaurants and hotels.
The combination of cutting-edge technology with personal service has helped James and his team to win numerous awards over recent years.
These include Best ‘Residential Project’ for the East Midlands in the RICS Awards 2022 and ‘Best Residential and Small Commercial Designer in the East Midlands’ in both 2021 and 2022.
Design Haus was also a finalist for ‘Young Architect of the Year’ at the prestigious Building Design – Architect of the Year Awards in 2022
Design Haus was based at Lady Bay Studios for a number of years before relocating to West Bridgford’s Portland Road at the end of 2022.
The building is no stranger to welcoming local businesses, having once housed a dairy and a florist.
James and his team have transformed the former retail space into a beautiful yet functional architectural office to welcome clients and support effective collaboration.
Design Haus was one of the first residential architectural practices in the UK to utilise VR, and James continues to be a passionate advocate of the technology’s ability to elevate the design experience for the client and all key stakeholders. He says of the technology:
“Virtual reality removes the guesswork from the design process. Clients are able to explore the proposed design from within, rather than simply imagining the end result.”
Therefore, one important element of the new layout was creating a dedicated space for delivering this immersive VR experience, where clients can physically walk around a digital version of their new home.
This allows them to specify changes before committing to a design or budget, as well as giving them the opportunity to try out different materials, lighting solutions and furniture arrangements.
Clients can even see the property at different times of the day and in various weather conditions for a realistic picture of how light will move around the building and landscape.
