Nottingham Forest’s plans to expand the City Ground to a potential capacity of 52,500 have moved forward after Rushcliffe Borough Council’s planning committee resolved to approve proposals, subject to conditions and legal agreements.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Planning Committee has today (September 16) resolved to approve Nottingham Forest’s plans at the City Ground to increase its capacity.
Leader of the Council Cllr Neil Clarke said: “Given the significance of these latest applications I am very pleased the Planning Committee, through its independent process, saw it fit to grant permission to assist the club with its plans.
“We are very proud they call Rushcliffe home and it’s heartening we can support them further with their aspirations.
“I am pleased that the applications have now been passed and we look forward to working with the club further as they progress.”
Councillors voted 10 – 1 for the proposals. Full application for demolition of existing buildings, redevelopment of the Peter Taylor Stand and Trent End and all associated works
The detailed scheme covers redevelopment of the Peter Taylor Stand and Trent End, increasing capacity to around 45,000.
A separate outline application proposes a later redevelopment of the Brian Clough Stand, bringing the total to 52,500 which can only be given outline permission tonight meaning much more work will be needed before full permission for this part.
Ahead of the meeting, planning officers recommended approval with extensive safeguards covering transport, construction, noise, flood protection and neighbouring properties. Safe movement of additional supporters across the River Trent was a central issue.
The recommendations sought to ensure that transport and river-crossing arrangements were agreed and delivered before the additional stadium capacity could be used.
The proposals build on redevelopment plans first unveiled in 2019, which have since grown substantially in scale.
