Nottingham High School annual open day 25 September

Open to all, the yearly event is a chance for families to come and experience life at Nottingham High School.

Nottingham High School will be holding their annual Open Day on Saturday the 25 September 2021.

See lessons in action, speak to students and staff, even sample the delicious school lunches.

Based on Waverley Mount, next to the Arboretum, Nottingham High School has a rich history spanning over 500 years.

Traditionally an all-boys school, Nottingham High welcomed its first girls in 2015 to become co-educational.

A Junior School was established in 1905, an Infants School in September 2008 and there is also a vibrant Sixth Form. The school’s move to co-education has been a great success.

The High School is a school of national reputation, Headmaster Kevin Fear has been at the helm since 2007.

He says “By championing the individual and encouraging intellectual curiosity, we ensure that all pupils not only achieve outstanding examination results but leave the School as well-rounded, confident young people, ready to play their part in tomorrow’s society.

Nottingham High School was delighted to be named The Sunday Times East Midlands Senior School of the Decade in 2021.

The award was made in recognition of the outstanding academic success fostered at Nottingham High School, who have year on year achieved the best exam results in the region.

As well as excellent academic results, the school puts a great emphasis on wellbeing and a focus on the individual to develop a lifelong love of learning.

Nottingham High School pride themselves on having happy and confident students with a strong sense of social responsibility.

There is a huge focus on extra-curricular activities that students can take part in, including Music, Journalism, Sports, Science, Chess and Food club.

As an integral part of the Nottinghamshire community, Nottingham High School undertakes a huge amount of work providing voluntary service, educational opportunities and support for a wide variety of schools, community groups, individuals and charities.

Children and teachers from state schools attended the School’s Partnership events, plus 3,700+ hours were spent community volunteering by students for the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The School has an extensive pupil catchment and is the first choice for much of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire.

Our students come from a wide range of backgrounds and we are committed to maintaining a representative entry, supporting this with generous bursary and scholarship funds for Year 7.

Together, these mean that about a tenth of Senior School pupils receive some form of financial assistance.
