The main concern for Nottingham commuters this morning remains severe congestion around Maid Marian Way, where demolition of the former Broad Marsh NCP car park continues to affect bus services across the city centre.
Nottingham City Transport is maintaining its network-wide warning of severe delays and short-notice cancellations. Several routes remain diverted to avoid the demolition area.
For motorists, the biggest new restriction comes tonight, when the A52 Queens Drive Flyover closes completely between 20:00 and 06:00 for National Highways lighting works.
In West Bridgford, the Gordon Road and Rectory Road gas schemes continue, while there are new daytime bus diversions in Carlton Valley and Arnold.
Rail passengers face several planned timetable alterations, and NET is operating to all tram stops, although its latest published service notice warns of extended waiting times.
Roads and motorways
No major new collision or emergency closure affecting Nottinghamshire’s M1, A1, A46 or A52 has been confirmed in the available early reports.
However, the live National Highways incident feed could not be fully verified at 06:05, so this should not be taken as confirmation that every strategic route is clear.
The main confirmed restrictions are planned works on the A52 at Wheatcroft and around Clifton Bridge.
A52 Clifton Bridge – major overnight closure tonight
A significant change to the current National Highways programme takes place tonight.
The A52 Queens Drive Flyover will close completely between 20:00 tonight, Thursday 8 October, and 06:00 Friday 9 October.
Queens Drive Island will remain open throughout.
The closure forms part of high-mast lighting maintenance around Clifton Bridge.
The previous three-night programme affecting the A453 northbound-to-A52 westbound link and Silverdale Island was scheduled to finish at 06:00 this morning.
From Friday 9 to Tuesday 13 October, the works move to Queens Drive alongside the Park and Ride site, where one lane will close overnight between 20:00 and 06:00.
A52 Wheatcroft
Lane restrictions continue around Wheatcroft junction, affecting the A52 eastbound between the A606 and A6011.
The current phase of traffic management has been scheduled through Friday 9 October.
The works are part of preparations for the wider Nottingham Knight and Wheatcroft junction improvement programme.
Drivers travelling between Gamston, Ruddington, West Bridgford and the A46 should allow additional time.
Maid Marian Way – congestion remains a major issue
The contraflow introduced on 28 September remains in place around the former NCP car park demolition site.
Traffic is operating one lane in each direction on the northbound side of Maid Marian Way, with temporary traffic signals controlling the junction.
NCT continues to warn that the works have caused severe congestion across the city centre and surrounding roads.
Its standing service notice says all services are experiencing severe delays and short-notice cancellations. This is an ongoing operator warning rather than a measured delay for every route at 06:05.
trentbarton also warns that the contraflow and temporary traffic lights will cause delays. Its inbound St Nicholas Church stop remains closed during this phase. Nottingham buses – significant diversions remain
Orange and Turquoise services
NCT’s temporary city-centre route changes remain in place.
