Nottinghamshire comes together in celebration at Christmas Community Carol Service

More than 350 people filled the historic St Mary’s Church in Nottingham on Monday evening for a special Together at Christmas Community Carol Service – a celebration recognising the many unsung acts of kindness, compassion, and community service across Nottinghamshire.

Hosted by the county’s Lord-Lieutenant, Professor Veronica Pickering, and supported by The Royal Foundation, the event formed part of the nationwide initiative inspired by the Princess of Wales to recognise the countless acts of love, kindness, and quiet dedication that strengthen communities across the UK each and every day.

The evening unfolded through an uplifting programme themed around love and Christmas, featuring some of the county’s exceptional local talent. Performances included a solo performance from 16-year-old Darcey Green Wright, a rising young Nottinghamshire performer; the Girls’ High School Choir; the evocative Military Wives Choir; and the soulful Hope Community Gospel Choir, alongside moving solo pieces and heartfelt readings delivered by local schoolchildren and community representatives.

As guests arrived, the Mansfield Drum Corps set the festive mood with traditional marching band music, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere that resonated throughout the service.

Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Veronica Pickering, the King’s representative in the county, said:

“I’m delighted that Nottinghamshire had the privilege of hosting one of the Community Carol Services this year.

“This event was a wonderful opportunity for us to come together as a community, to celebrate those who are truly making a difference.”

Amanda Berry CBE, CEO of The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, commented: “Our Royal Foundation Community Carol Services embody the true spirit of the festive season.

“This December marks the fourth year that The Royal Foundation has had the privilege of supporting these special community gatherings, shining a light on truly remarkable people right across the UK.

“From small towns to major cities, these wonderful and uplifting occasions bring people together to honour those who have made a lasting difference in their communities throughout the year.”
