Nottinghamshire Lord-Lieutenant awards GeoPura King’s Award for Innovation

GeoPura has officially received the King’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category, recognising its groundbreaking Hydrogen Power Unit (HPU) technology and its contribution to the UK’s transition away from fossil fuels.

The award was formally presented by Veronica Pickering MBS HAC, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, during a visit to GeoPura’s HyMarnham Power site. Andrew Cunningham, CEO and founder of GeoPura, accepted the award on behalf of the company.

Veronica Pickering said: “It’s an honour to present GeoPura with the King’s Award for Innovation. The company is not only pioneering clean energy solutions, but doing so here in Nottinghamshire, with a clear commitment to sustainability, local employment, and long-term impact. GeoPura is a fantastic example of how UK innovation can help tackle global energy challenges.”

The HyMarnham Power site is at the heart of GeoPura’s mission to decarbonise power generation. Home to a certified low-carbon hydrogen production facility, it supports critical projects across construction, events, EV charging, and broadcast – all powered by GeoPura’s emission-free hydrogen fuel cell generators. The site also serves as a hub for testing, development and deployment of GeoPura’s growing fleet of HPUs.

Accepting the award, Andrew Cunningham said: “We’re incredibly proud to receive the King’s Award for Innovation. This recognition reflects years of hard work, belief, and collaboration from the entire GeoPura team, our partners and our investors. What we’re doing at HyMarnham Power, and with our HPUs, proves there is a cleaner, more sustainable way to generate power and it’s available now. We’re grateful to the Lord-Lieutenant for joining us to mark this milestone.”

HPUs are used in power generation for applications where the electricity grid either doesn’t exist or isn’t sufficient. Over the past six years, GeoPura’s HPUs have been deployed at major infrastructure projects including HS2 and National Highways, as well as high-profile events such as the Isle of Wight Festival, BMW PGA Golf, and live television and sport broadcasts. In each case, GeoPura technology has replaced diesel generators, cutting carbon emissions, eliminating harmful air pollutants, and delivering consistent, reliable power.

Earlier this year, GeoPura launched HPU2, the next generation of its hydrogen power unit, designed to meet higher capacity power demands with greater flexibility and efficiency. The launch reflects the company’s continued investment in R&D to drive practical, scalable alternatives to fossil-fuelled power.

The King’s Awards for Enterprise are the UK’s most prestigious business honours, recognising outstanding achievement in innovation, international trade, sustainable development, and promoting opportunity. GeoPura is one of only a small number of businesses to be recognised in the innovation category this year.
