Early morning
The day begins very unsettled, with widespread rain expected from the early hours. Between 5am and 7am the probability of rain is above 95 per cent, indicating steady and persistent downpours across the county. Temperatures are mild at around 13C, feeling close to 10C in a southerly wind of 15 to 17mph. Visibility is moderate at times due to the rain. By 8am showers begin to ease slightly, though the chance of rain still remains high at around 70 per cent. Winds turn south-south-westerly and increase to around 17 to 18mph.
Midday
Through the late morning the rain becomes more fragmented. Rainfall probability falls to 50 per cent at 9am and drops further to around 30 per cent by 10am. Cloud remains thick and widespread, though the driest part of the day develops between 10am and midday. Temperatures lift to 14C by midday, with winds strengthening slightly from the south-south-west at 19mph. Visibility improves to good or very good as the wettest conditions pull away.
Afternoon
Tuesday afternoon is largely dry but cloudy. Temperatures climb to around 15C from 1pm to 3pm, continuing the spell of unusually mild December weather. Winds remain brisk from the south-south-west at around 20mph. Rain risk stays relatively low during this period, mostly around 30 to 40 per cent, but skies remain overcast throughout. Humidity gradually eases down into the mid-eighties, and visibility stays very good, making this the most settled part of the day.
Evening
The evening stays dry and mild. Between 4pm and 7pm temperatures range between 12C and 14C, falling slowly later in the evening. There is almost no risk of rain through the first half of the night, with probabilities below five per cent across the mid-evening hours. Winds ease gently but remain south-westerly at around 16 to 18mph. Later in the evening, temperatures hover around 11C to 12C, with clear spells developing after 9pm. Humidity climbs back towards 80 per cent, and visibility remains excellent.
