Bonfire night was slightly different this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, as all organised displays were cancelled.
The service had anticipated a busier night than usual, and expected to be attending bonfire and firework-related incidents because of people hosting their own displays at home.
The joint control room with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service received 560 calls this year, and they mobilised appliances to 65 of those calls.
This was an increase from the 345 calls received on bonfire night in 2019, however there were no significant incidents. The majority of this year’s calls were from people reporting controlled burns.
Group Manager, Matt Reavill, said: “Our normal advice is for people to go to organised displays and with lockdown it meant that this wasn’t possible.
“We are grateful that those who chose to have bonfires and use fireworks, on the whole, used them sensibly and safely.”
