Ollerton murder investigation: Police granted more time to question suspect

Detectives have been granted extra time to detain a man arrested on suspicion of the murder of an Ollerton woman.

A dedicated team of detectives and officers have been working on the investigation since Sunday 6 September.

The victim, aged 52, was discovered at an address in James Close, Ollerton, shortly before 8pm.

Family members raised the alarm when they could not reach the victim, which prompted officers to enter her home address.

A 60-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. He is known to the victim.

Officers were granted an additional 36 hours by the courts yesterday to detain the suspect while further lines of inquiry are explored.

This includes mobile phone and CCTV work, forensics and further witness statements.

A cordon will remain in place at the property.

The woman’s family are being supported by specially trained officers during this incredibly difficult time.

Detective Inspector Stu Barson, who is leading the investigation, said:

“This was an utterly horrific and violent crime committed on a woman in her own home, and we will leave no stone unturned.

“The family remain at the heart of everything we do. As you can imagine, this news has been utterly devastating for them, and they have asked for privacy during this incredibly difficult time.

“We would like anyone with information, who has not already been in touch, to please contact us, especially if you live in the area of James Close in Ollerton.

“Did you see or notice any suspicious activity before or during Sunday 6 September Even the smallest piece of information may prove vital to this investigation.”
