East Midlands Railway announced the news at 4 pm on Tuesday 9 January.

The line has now reopened between Newark and Lincoln, our priority now is to restore our normal timetable. This is not expected to be until 20:00.
A spokesperson said:
‘Sadly, a person has been hit by a train between Newark Castle, Newark Northgate and Lincoln.
‘Services on our Leicester-Nottingham-Lincoln-Grimsby and Newark Northgate-Lincoln routes are unable to run.’
Emergency services and Network Rail are on route to the scene. They are expected on site by 16:20.
‘Trains are unable to run between Newark Castle and Lincoln in either direction.
-Services on our Leicester-Nottingham-Lincoln route will operate between Leicester and Nottingham only.
‘Trains are unable to run between Newark Northgate and Lincoln in either direction (next service 23:16 this evening, currently expected to be unaffected).
‘We currently expect the line to reopen in the next 3 hours.
‘As soon as the emergency services allow the line to re-open, our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised timetable again. We currently hope to run our advertised services by 19:00 this evening.’
