East Midlands Railway announced the sad news this morning.
The train operator said at 9:17 am on Thursday 22 August 2024:
‘We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train.
‘This has occurred between Leicester and Market Harborough and is disrupting our trains on the Intercity
‘Emergency services are on site.’
‘Trains running through the area in both directions cannot run between Leicester and Market Harborough.
‘Some regional services may also be affected to/ from Leicester due to trains being unable to run in the Leicester area so please check your journey.
‘At present we are expecting the line to re-open in the next two hours.
‘As soon as the line is open again, our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect our advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 11:30.’

Sheffield
You may travel to Doncaster where you should change for a train to London Kings Cross. It is likely to take between 2 and 2.5 hours to complete this journey. Derby/Chesterfield
You may travel to Birmingham New Street where you should change for a train to London Euston. It is likely to take between 2.5 and 3 hours to complete this journey. . Nottingham -You may travel to Grantham where you should change for a train to London Kings Cross. It is likely to take between 2 and 2.5 hours to complete this journey. Leicester

All of these alternative route options are available in the opposite direction too. Dont worry about your ticket, we have already made arrangements with other train companies for you to travel with your original ticket.
