Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service carried out a large-scale training exercise at The Nest on Monday night – one of Nottingham’s newest entertainment venues located next to Notts County Football Club.
Six fire engines, the Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP), and the Service’s brand‑new Command Support Vehicle (CSV) attended the simulated incident, which tested operational procedures in responding to a developing fire within a busy public venue.
The exercise – named Exercise Nest – enabled crews to practice large‑compartment Breathing Apparatus procedures, assess cross‑border working capabilities, and manage simulated water supply challenges while deploying the ALP. It also offered an opportunity for firefighters and officers to further evaluate the use of Body Worn Cameras, which were recently introduced across the Service.
Andy Bailey, Station Manager of London Road Fire Station, said: “Training exercises like this are vital to ensuring our crews are fully prepared for real emergencies. Venues such as The Nest provide us with realistic environments to test specialist equipment, practice complex procedures, and work alongside partners.
“We’re grateful for the support from Nottinghamshire Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service, the Environmental Agency, and of course Notts County Football Club, whose cooperation helps us maintain the highest standards of safety for the communities of Nottinghamshire.”
