Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting communities across the county, delivering thousands of Easter eggs to children who may not otherwise have received a treat this year.
For the fourth year running, staff from across the Service organised and hosted the NFRS Easter Egg Appeal—an initiative inviting donations of chocolate eggs from staff, partners, retailers, and members of the public. Thanks to the remarkable generosity shown, more than 3,500 Easter eggs have now been distributed to children and families across Nottinghamshire.
This year’s appeal was supported by collections through fire stations, non‑operational departments, partner organisations, and the wider community.
It also included the highly popular Motorcycle Easter Egg Run, now in its 45th year.
On Sunday 29 March, 664 motorcyclists from across Nottinghamshire departed from the Forest Recreation Ground and made their way to Mansfield Fire Station, each rider donating a minimum of one Easter egg.
In total, an impressive 2,417 eggs were collected through the run alone. Upon arrival, participants were met with safety information, opportunities to sign up for Biker Down courses, and the chance to explore Mansfield’s Fire Museum.
Additional fundraising activities raised £550.94 for children’s charities and events that support vulnerable young people.
Tim Marston, Fire Investigation Dog Handler and lead organiser of the Motorcycle Egg Run, said: “The generosity of the bikers who take part never fails to amaze me, and it’s fantastic to see the event go from strength to strength.
“Not only is this the 45th year the Motorcycle Egg Run has taken place, but it also marks the 20th year Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service has hosted the event. It’s a real milestone, and we’re immensely proud to have supported it for so long.
“Being able to provide Easter eggs to children who may not otherwise receive any is incredibly rewarding – and it’s about so much more than the chocolate; it’s the kindness and thought behind every single egg.”
The donated eggs have now been delivered to support centres, family hubs, hospital wards, and partner organisations including the Queen’s Medical Centre, Midlands Women’s Aid and Maggie’s Treatment Centre.
NFRS would like to extend its sincere thanks to every individual who donated to this year’s appeal. The Service also acknowledges the invaluable support of retailers who collected eggs on its behalf, including Boots Opticians, Source Bioscience, Parkin Contractors LTD, Shelton’s Solicitors, The Nabb Inn, 1st Hucknall Scout Group, Robert Miles Infant School, Hucknall Tesco, Beeston Tesco and Gamston Morrisons.
