Police launch investigation after reports of a shooting in Nottingham

Police cordons remain in place in Hickings Lane Park, with officers remaining in the area throughout today to provide community reassurance.

Nottinghamshire Police detectives have launched an investigation following a report of a man being shot last night.

Armed police were deployed to Stapleford at around 10.30pm to secure the area as Nottinghamshire Police launched an investigation into the incident.

Police cordons remain in place in Hickings Lane Park, with officers remaining in the area throughout today to provide community reassurance.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre after being treated to a single gunshot wound to his arm. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Detective Inspector Kim Binns is leading the investigation. She said: “We are at a very early stage in our investigation and we are working hard to understand the circumstances around this serious incident.

“We believe that the incident took place in Hickings Lane Park around 10.30pm and we are now calling for the public to help us piece together what happened.

“I want to reassure the public that we are doing everything in our power to find those responsible.”

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Simon Riley said: “I understand the level of concern incidents of this nature cause and patrols will be increased in the area over the coming days in order to provide reassurance to the public.

“Firearms offences are totally unacceptable and have no place in our community.

“If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to speak with one of our officers in the area or give Nottinghamshire Police a call on 101. We are committed to protecting the safety of our communities and will be doing everything we can to make sure the area is secured and safe for the public.

“We will aim to keep disruption to a minimum while we detectives carry out their investigation.”
