Police detained a suspected drug dealer after spotting e-bikes being ridden in an antisocial way and deciding to take action.
Operational Support officers were travelling through Aspley when a bunch of riders headed past them on the wrong side of the road.
After turning around to follow them, the policing team watched on as the group of riders pulled wheelies and weaved in and out of traffic.
The e-bikes – which had their lights dimmed – were then seen to block other road users from overtaking them in Aspley Lane, around 1.15am on Sunday (22 June).
Believing the riders were deliberately trying to intimidate one passing motorist in particular, the officers decided to take action by blocking them in with their police car.
The group responded by abandoning the bikes and running away, with a short foot chase taking place down Western Boulevard.
Police managed to detain a suspect nearby soon afterwards, while also seizing a rucksack.
When it was searched, the bag was found to contain quantities of cannabis, deal bags, weighing scales and cash.
Police subsequently arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of dangerous driving, possessing with intent to supply cannabis, and driving without a valid licence or insurance.
PC Connor Chettle, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“The officers involved in this arrest did a great job after spotting a group of bikers riding through Aspley in an antisocial and inconsiderate way.
“When the manner of their driving escalated to a fashion the officers deemed to be dangerous, the officers decided to take action and pull them over.
“That decision led to a suspect being chased down and arrested, at which point a rucksack was recovered that was found to contain quantities of Class B drugs.
“Drug activity will never be tolerated by Nottinghamshire Police, so that discovery, coupled with the arrest for the driving offences, proved to be a good result for the team.”
