Police warn residents to lock doors and windows after burglary arrest

Police are urging householders to keep their doors and windows locked to help them ‘beat the burglars’ after arresting a suspected car key burglar.

Extensive inquiries were carried out after it was reported a suspect entered a home in Castle Boulevard, Nottingham, during the night by climbing through an insecure window.

Keys belonging to a Ford Galaxy were taken from inside the address before the vehicle was stolen.

The car was later recovered after it was involved in a collision with a parked vehicle in Ransom Road, St Ann’s.

Officers arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of burglary during their patrols in the city centre during the early hours of Monday (13 October 2025).

Detective Sergeant Rob Palethorpe, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Burglary is a horribly invasive and upsetting crime that can have a significant emotional and financial impact on people – and we’re also conscious of the impact it has on wider communities.

“It’s for this exact reason why we carry out so much work as a force to target burglary offenders and bring burglars to justice, as well as striving to reduce our number of victims through education and engagement work.

“We want to remind people of the crime prevention measures they can put in place to make sure their home is as safe as possible.

“As the nights draw in, we can’t stress enough the importance of making life as difficult as possible for opportunist burglars by making sure your doors and windows are locked at all times.

“Improving security features such as locks, alarms, CCTV, lighting, and doorbell cameras can also make a big difference in deterring potential burglars, as well as making sure your house always looks occupied.

“Keys should be removed from windows, doors or from display, even if the house is locked. Make sure you keep your car keys in a safe place and any valuables you have should be kept out of sight.

“If you have high value items such as jewellery, watches, passports, credit cards, computer data and identification documents, you may want to consider storing them in a safe.”
