Progress on the redevelopment of the Priory Centre will pick up pace in the new year bringing with it a larger on-site presence.
A number of preparation and enabling works have taken place over the last few weeks with more visible developments scheduled for January 2026, marking a new exciting phase of this transformational project.
From Monday 5th January, work will begin on creating a new electricity substation that will be located in the eastern end of the car park to the rear of The British Heart Foundation.
This is ahead of a larger on-site presence by the principal contractor G. F. Tomlinson as they set up their site compound from Monday 9th February, ahead of the planned demolition phase. This will begin with some soft stripping of existing units, before the more significant demolition takes place in March.
The Priory Centre is undergoing a major refurbishment programme that will shift the focus from simply retail to a mix of entertainment, leisure, retail and community space.
Cllr Julie Leigh, Leader of Bassetlaw District Council, said: “The new year will bring the start of more prominent physical works on the Priory Centre and mark an exciting time for the town centre.
“Getting to this stage of the development has taken a lot of work behind the scenes. Thank you for your patience. I’m delighted that visitors to Worksop, residents and existing businesses will start to see some significant progress over the next few months.
“The redevelopment of the Priory Centre will make the town centre much more attractive to visit and have elements that will bring extra footfall to the high street and support existing businesses. I look forward to telling you more about further developments as the weeks and months progress.”
More information will be announced in the new year, along with regular updates on the progress of the demolition and redevelopment of the centre.
