A reptile shop has shared an unusual council letter referring to a woman who allegedly claimed to be the “biological mother” of one of its animals.
Urban Exotics, on Urban Road in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, said the letter arrived on Monday morning, 24 August, following an incident at the shop several months ago.
The correspondence, dated 17 August and sent by Ashfield District Council, carries the heading: “Complaint – Anti-Social behaviour issues from a female claiming to be the biological mother of one of the reptiles in the shop.”
The business said the woman had caused a disturbance involving customers, prompting a complaint to the council.
Sharing a photograph of the letter, with personal details obscured, the shop said: “This is a genuine letter we received this morning. Best laugh I’ve had in ages. I had to read that top line 10 times.
“This was regards to a lady that kicked off in the shop to our customers a few months ago.”
The council’s letter does not give further details about the incident or identify the reptile involved.
It tells the business that action has been taken and that the council officer now intends to close the case.
The letter states: “I am writing to inform you that action has now been taken on this case. It is therefore my intention to step the case down.”
The wording appears to record the claim reportedly made by the woman rather than a finding made by the council.
A spokesperson for the council said: “The individual concerned was already known to council officers prior to this incident, and the council was contacted again by the business regarding the matter.
“We are restricted by data protection and confidentiality obligations and therefore cannot comment on an individual’s personal circumstances, health, housing situation, or any involvement with other agencies.
