Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Tim Cuthbert outlines priorities for the teams in the borough over the coming weeks and months.
Tim writes below in an update for residents and businesses:
‘Following a recent meeting with the team at Rushcliffe Borough Council, we’ve set the local policing priorities for the next quarter.
They are;
– Anti-Social Behaviour in the area around Bridgford Park. We’ll be increasing patrols in the park in the early evenings in response to reports of persons damaging property, acting in a threatening manner, and recent reports concerning theft of bikes too. Officers will be looking to engage with young people in the area, but where suspicious activity is taking place, and where grounds permit (especially if there is a concern around any weapons), using stop & search too.

– Shop Theft. We continue to see shop theft numbers higher than I would like, and whilst we are around 20% lower than this time last year, I‘m very keen for my team to continue to target persistent offenders, and utilise Criminal Behaviour Orders to combat the problem. My team will also continue attending the regular shop-watch meetings too.
– Speeding in rural areas. I receive complaints about speeding probably more than anything else. Whilst we have ongoing joint work with partners to look at combatting the Car Cruising problem, it is of course crucial that we look to make our roads safer, so you may have already seen our teams out on speeding operations in recent days both in built up and rural areas, and we’ll continue to try to prevent serious collisions on Rushcliffe’s roads by tackling speeding.
I invited the Underwater Search Unit to conduct their training dives around Holme Pierrepont recently, and joined them on their exercise in an area around the lock where we traditionally find local teenagers jumping into the Trent during the hotter weather.
We have an exceptionally professional and dedicated Underwater Search Team in Notts Police, who are sadly used in the region far too often to recover the bodies of deceased people from the water.
I cannot emphasise enough, the importance of water safety in the coming summer months, and again, I’d urge those teenagers jumping into the Trent as a source of entertainment this summer not to do so. You really don’t know what you’re jumping into. There are dangers that lurk beneath the surface in terms of physical hazards, or currents which you can easily underestimate.
Your Neighbourhood Policing Team will also continue to tackle other local problems, ASB, and drug crime as we look forward to increasing the number of officers on our team in the near future.
This week has seen our Response Week of Action. Whilst I don’t directly supervise Response officers, they are the front-line cops who are usually first on scene to some of our most serious incidents, such as assaults, serious accidents, or crimes in action.
I’m routinely impressed with the dedication & professionalism of the teams who cover Rushcliffe 24/7, and I just wanted to formally show my appreciation for the work they do to keep our communities safe.
