Rushcliffe: Police Inspector updates the community and confirms priorities

Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Policing Inspector, Tim Cuthbert updates Rushcliffe residents and businesses.

Tim writes:

‘I know it’s been a long time coming, but this month we welcome some additional officers into our area.

PCs Kim Fox, Matt Pooley, and Alfie Russell will be joining the Rushcliffe South team, based at Cotgrave Police Station, under Sgt Dave Hodson, with a further two officers arriving later in the year, before Christmas.

These additions are part of a phased uplift in numbers in Neighbourhood Policing roles across the force, so I’m really pleased to expand the team and increase our capacity for proactive problem solving. The officers’ beat areas will be updated on the website within the next month as they are allocated beat areas.

I attended the Rushcliffe Town & Parish Conference last week, presenting a summary of the last year in Rushcliffe and also discussing future developments and challenges, as well as answering queries from the councillors in attendance.

It was fantastic to be able to meet so many of the local representatives and discuss local concerns, so thanks to those who came to speak to me at the event.

Following meetings with Rushcliffe Borough Council and listening to the issues highlighted in the PCC’s surveys, we’re refreshing our quarterly area priorities. They will be:

• Theft and business crime in West Bridgford

Car cruising and road safety

• Shoplifting and burglary in East Leake

With regard to our first priority, whilst we’ve seen a reduction in shop theft over the last two months, especially following the prosecution of some persistent offenders, I want to keep our focus on reducing theft and supporting local businesses who suffer from it. This week is Safer Business Action Week, and we’ve had some additional activity in West Bridgford, which you may have been part of if you’ve been out and about on Central Avenue.

Our second priority, in order to tackle car cruising, is to dedicate staff to support a force-wide operation, which will take place every weekend to respond to pockets of car cruising, and to deal with persistent offenders and the associated antisocial behaviour (ASB).

Our third priority is to tackle what was a small spike in acquisitive crime in East Leake. The Neighbourhoods team worked some extremely long hours on night shifts recently, on their rest days, to try to tackle the issue where we had a small cluster of burglaries, and whilst that series has diminished, we want to ensure we can do further work around target hardening and crime prevention, not to mention bringing offenders to justice.

My team have recently supported Rushcliffe Borough Council and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service by visiting hundreds of student properties in Rushcliffe to provide crime prevention advice, as well as to welcome students to the area. I believe this is a really important move, and something which will hopefully provide some reassurance, as well as vital advice, to those living away from home, perhaps for the first time.

We have been busy with several deployments in the area to combat speeding, which is something I get a lot of correspondence about, with several offenders reported for summons. I’d also like to remind the rural community of our Farmers’ Forum coming up on Wednesday, 6 November, at 7pm, which is kindly being hosted at Oddhouse Farm. The PCC will be attending and providing some updates, as well as some other speakers too, so it’s a great opportunity to hear some important updates, as well as meet and discuss local issues with the Neighbourhoods Team and representatives from Rushcliffe Borough Council.

If I could also take this opportunity to remind people about Notts Alerts. Notts Alerts is a fantastic tool which can be used to find out key information about local policing issues, with email notifications straight to you. It also offers consultation and feedback opportunities. We’ll also use the page to advertise local events, beat surgeries, and crime prevention advice. It is free to sign up, so please use this link to access the registration page:
