Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Tim Cuthbert writes his monthly update.
Tim Writes:
‘Welcome to the latest Neighbourhood Policing Blog for Rushcliffe.
‘Firstly, our thoughts are with those impacted by the terrorist incident in Manchester. This sickening event will no doubt lead to many people feeling apprehensive in the UK, and locally in Rushcliffe too. I want to make sure my team are aware of any tensions linked to race or religion which have been triggered by this event. My team will be patrolling in the vicinity of some places of worship as a point of reassurance, and I’d encourage any incidents to be reported so that we can ensure a swift and appropriate response.

‘I also want to address the recent BBC Panorama documentary which highlighted some wholly inappropriate attitudes and behaviours at a station in the Metropolitan Police. I watched the documentary, and it was very uncomfortable viewing. I want to reassure those living in Rushcliffe that the attitudes and behaviours displayed in that documentary are not reflected in my teams here. We work hard every day to seek to provide a top notch service to the public without fear or favour, and I see examples of outstanding resilience, hard work, and dedication on a daily basis. My team know the high standards I expect, and I’m very proud to say we deliver those high standards every day.

‘In terms of activity from the team this month, we’ve been incredibly busy. The teams at Cotgrave have conducted several search warrants under Operation Dawntreader which is tackling drugs supply in the Bingham area. We’ve had some great results as you may have seen on our Facebook posts lately, and the team have processed several prisoners, including charging and remanding one key individual with drug supply offences. Some long hours have been put in to this operation so far, so thank you to the team for their efforts in Bingham.

‘We’ve utilised the skills of the off-road bike team in Rushcliffe South this month to tackle off road bike nuisance, as well as conducting additional patrols in the Ruddington area following some offences of theft of bikes, and we’ll also be putting in place a new Problem Management Plan to tackle that issue. The team are making some good progress on those enquiries, and I expect arrests to follow in due course.

‘My team have been involved in the policing of the European games at the City Ground, and we had the first of that series on Thursday. For the European matches, you may notice some differences in the dress and style of policing compared to regular Premier League games at the City Ground. These games will be staffed by officers with additional public order training, which is a precautionary measure, ensuring appropriately trained officers, with appropriate access to more enhanced equipment will be present in sufficient numbers to deal with any eventuality on matchday. There are several different variables to manage for European games, which will lead to different arrangements for fan access, so I’d encourage anyone attending the European games to allow some extra time for your journey where possible so that we can ensure everyone gets into the ground as safely as possible.

‘We were pleased to be joined by Rushcliffe MP James Naish and Cllr Rob Inglis last weekend for a walk through on our local Nighttime Economy Policing operations. The team showed our guests the reality of NTE policing, and discussed the efforts we’re making locally to ensure Rushcliffe nightlife is as safe as possible for all.
‘Following our Multi-Agency Problem Solving meeting, I’ve refreshed the local priorities for Rushcliffe. There is a lot of detail on the Notts Police website about the reasons for the priorities, but in summary, they’re below;
1 – Theft of Bikes & Motorbikes
2 – Road Safety
3 – Shop Theft
‘As previously alluded to, there is a current series of thefts of bikes and motorbikes across the south of Nottinghamshire, and officers are working hard to secure evidence to support prosecutions against those suspected of the offences. Road safety has been added in due to it being the matter I receive the most correspondence about, and it coming top of the concerns raised in the PCC survey, and Shop Theft remains a priority due to the high levels of offences recorded, and the repeat nature of some of the offending.

‘Finally, this week saw the retirement of an outstanding officer, and important member of our team in Rushcliffe. PC Steve Piper has retired after around 24 years serving the public in Policing, having joined the Met Police initially, before transferring up to Nottingham. Steve is Mr Reliable. He’s one of those cops whose files were immaculate, he’s helpful, supportive, calm, respectful, and has served on the front line of policing in a uniformed role for his whole career. On behalf of myself and the team, thank you, Steve… we all wish you a healthy and happy retirement.’
