Ruth Edwards, MP for Rushcliffe comments on today’s rail announcements by the Transport Secretary.
Ruth said:
“This announcement invests billions of pounds in our region’s transport infrastructure, it is fantastic news for the East Midlands and particularly for Rushcliffe.
“I am delighted that HS2 will be coming to East Midlands Parkway, cutting journey times between Birmingham and Nottingham by 45 minutes and linking up with the East Midlands Freeport site at Ratcliffe on Soar.
“This will create a hub for investment and jobs here in Rushcliffe. HS2 trains will go direct to Nottingham Station [ on normal rail lines ] so people won’t have to travel to Toton to connect to the line.
“I am also delighted that the Midlands Mainline is being electrified in full and that work to electrify the next section of the line will begin by Christmas. This is an issue that many constituents have raised with me and I’m so pleased to see the Government delivering.”
