Shoplifter gets three-year ban from multiple stores

A prolific thief has been banned from multiple shops across Mansfield after a string of recent convictions.

Adam Glasby, aged 49, was made the subject of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) during his latest appearance at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on 9 December.

Glasby, who has a long history of theft offences, pleaded guilty to stealing household items from the One Stop in Westfield Lane in September and was given a community order.

Under the terms of this CBO, Glasby, of Chesterfield Road South, has also been banned from the following shops for a period of three years:

Any branch of B&M anywhere in the district of Mansfield

Any breach of the order will be a criminal offence in its own right and could lead to an immediate jail sentence.

Tackling shop theft is a key priority for neighbourhood officers, who have successfully used CBOs to target the most prolific offenders.

The orders – of which there are now more than a dozen in place – can ban individuals from visiting certain locations or from taking certain actions, such as bringing empty bags into shops.

With breaches being offences in themselves, people who are subject to orders can quickly find themselves back in prison if they choose to flout them.

PCSO Victoria Swann said:

“Glasby is a prolific offender who has caused significant harm to the local business community.

“Orders of this nature take a lot of work to secure, but they really are one of the most effective tools we have to tackle repeat offenders like Glasby.

“I hope, for his sake, that he abides by the court’s instructions and also embraces the help available to him to address the underlying causes of his criminality.”
