A Worksop shoplifter has been handed a 16-week prison sentence after being linked to a series of thefts.
Three shops across Worksop were targeted by Brett Riddell during his shoplifting spree carried out between 19 and 28 December.
Over the course of his offending, Riddell took £400 worth of clothes, £112 of laundry products and nearly £60 of dishwasher tablets from shelves.
Washing products worth £80 and an assortment of household items totalling £233 were also stolen by the 46-year-old.
Riddell was clearly captured through CCTV at each premises targeted.
As reports came in on Sunday of Riddell’s fifth and final shop theft, CCTV operators from Bassetlaw District Council provided assistance to locate him.
Following a search of the local area, police soon found Riddell and placed him under arrest.
Riddell, of no fixed address, was put before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday (29 December), and pleaded guilty to five counts of shop theft.
He received a 16-week jail sentence.
PC Eoin Wilson, of the Worksop south neighbourhood policing team, said:
“Shoplifting not only impacts our local businesses and their employees, but also the wider community including customers who spend their hard-earned money in those same stores.
“We’ve been working extremely hard over the last few months to curb these types of offences across Worksop town centre, and this has resulted in numerous custodial sentences being handed out to prolific offenders.
“Work continues though to not only secure jail sentences but to provide rehabilitation when needed to help support past offenders and reduce repeat offending.”
