Stinger device used to stop car after high-speed police pursuit

A high-speed pursuit was brought to an end with a tyre-deflating stinger device.

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit attempted to pull over a car on Stonebridge Road, Warsop, at about 7.30pm on Friday 10 April.

After initially stopping, the vehicle was driven away at high speed around surrounding roads.

Stinger units were deployed to the A60, resulting in a puncture to the vehicle’s rear offside tyre.

The driver then came to a stop on Poplar Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, where he was detained and arrested.

Sam Finch, aged 30, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 13 April and pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, and possessing a class B drug.

Finch, of Shakespeare Avenue, Mansfield Woodhouse, was released on bail and is due to be sentenced at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on 15 May.

PC Helen Plummer said:

“This was an impressive response by roads policing officers, who worked as a team to bring this vehicle to swift and safe stop.”
