Nottinghamshire Police has received a report of a suspected explosive device.
Officers were called to London Road in Balderton, Newark, just after 9.15am today (8 October) to a report of a suspected World War II shell found underground at a building site.
Specialist advice has been taken and a cordon put in place.
Inspector Steve O’Connell, who is overseeing the incident, said: “We always treat these calls with the utmost caution to ensure the safety of everyone in the area.
“A specialist team is on the way to look at the device and decide on the next steps. I would like to thank the local community for their patience while we work to bring this incident to a safe conclusion.”
