A suspect has been arrested for robbery after a man’s coat was reportedly stolen at knifepoint.
The victim was walking through Vernon Park, Basford, when he was suddenly struck on the back of the head.
Having been knocked to the ground as a result, he was further assaulted before having his high-value coat prised off him.
The man was then reportedly threatened with a knife by an individual, who left the scene with the victim’s jacket.
This reportedly took place at around 5.30 pm on Sunday (10 May), with the targeted man sustaining injuries to his legs and head.
Police have been investigating the incident since then and managed to detain a suspect in Aspley on Wednesday (13 May) morning.
A 14-year-old was subsequently arrested on suspicion of robbery, while a coat resembling the one taken during the incident was recovered by officers.
Inspector Gordon Fenwick, Neighbourhood Inspector for the City West, said:
“A robbery can impact people in a multitude of different ways, not least from an emotional point of view.
“It can have severe financial implications too, so it was good to be able to recover what we believe was a stolen high-value coat on this occasion.
“Add in reports of a knife potentially being shown during this incident and we’re talking about an incredibly serious offence.
“On that note, we’re pleased to have been able to arrest a suspect, which we hope sends a message that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.
“Inquiries are still very much ongoing into this incident, though, so we’d ask anyone who has any information to report it to the police on 101, quoting incident 501 of 10 May 2026.
“Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
