West Bridgford’s Jesse Gray Primary shared a memorable day with the local community as their new running track was officially unveiled, thanks to a generous donation of £5,000 from The Family Chemist.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held on 8 September, celebrated the completion and opening of the new running track designed to support the school’s commitment to the ‘Daily Mile’—an initiative that encourages children at the school to run, jog, or even walk a mile each day to improve physical and mental health.

As Nikita Dhain, co-founder of The Family Chemist, states, ‘It’s so important that children learn from a young age that movement is for everyone.’
This special event was attended by none other than Paralympian gold medallist and local hero Richard Whitehead MBE, who joined the students in launching this new space.
Whitehead, who is a keen advocate for encouraging physical activity in young people, took part in a celebratory run with the children to mark this exciting premiere.

The occasion also saw The Family Chemist’s co-founders, Nikita and Sunny Dhain, present a cheque to the school, officially marking the company’s sponsorship of the new facility.
The track, which encircles the school’s playing field, is now open for daily use by all pupils—come rain or shine!

For The Family Chemist, encouraging physical activity in children is about more than fresh air and exercise—it’s about building a foundation for lifelong health.
‘Healthy habits are formed in childhood,’ Sunny Dhain was quoted, ‘and when children are supported and encouraged to be active while they’re still full of energy, it sets the tone for how they’ll look after themselves in the years to come.’
Building lifelong healthy habits from an early age helps children establish the foundations of wellness that they will carry into their teenage years and beyond.
The pharmacy, known for its commitment to making healthcare accessible, personal, and professional, saw this initiative as a natural extension of those core values—promoting wellness at every stage of life, not just through medication, but through proactive and preventive measures such as staying active.
The atmosphere on the day was one of celebration and community pride. Students, teachers, and invited guests all gathered in jubilation as they watched this new track mark a future of healthy habits and a lifelong love of physical activity.
A gift that will be used and enjoyed every day, built on the philosophy that lies at the heart of The Family Chemist’s growing mission.
This donation from The Family Chemist is part of its wider commitment to the community—promoting accessible healthcare and well-being, both through their expanding services and through meaningful local initiatives.
With the school now equipped with its very own track, Jesse Gray Primary School is better placed than ever to embed healthy habits into everyday school life— inspiring a generation to get up and get moving.
