Tier 3: Talks delayed over reports of county-wide Nottinghamshire lockdown

It’s been reported that talks over Gedling, Rushcliffe, Broxtowe and Nottingham city’s Tier 3 arrangements were delayed last night because of a surge in cases in Ashfield and Mansfield.

In a statement Broxtowe Borough Council deputy leader Stephen Carr, present at the talks said:

‘Many of you will know that the decision was announced on Monday that Broxtowe, Rushcliffe, Nottingham and Gedling are to be place in Tier 3 from Thursday 29 October.

‘We were promised that we would be given the go-ahead to advise residents of the implications to them buy this morning ( Tuesday 27 October ).

‘Broxtowe finally got that go-ahead earlier this evening ( Tuesday 27 October ).

‘Broxtowe council published them on their website at the agreed time of 7:30 pm.

‘Twenty minutes later, the council was contacted by the Government to advise that they were having a rethink because of rising infection rates in Ashfield and Mansfield, and there is to be a further meeting tomorrow morning ( Wednesday 28 October )

‘This is totally unacceptable to those individuals in the borough who are waiting to find out how their lives will be affected.

‘These constant delays are putting local lives at risk as infection rates continue to rise.

The joint statement released by Rushcliffe, Gedling, Broxtowe and Nottingham City councils last night after the talks reads:

“We appreciate that our communities and businesses are awaiting clarity and certainty about how the Tier 3 measures will impact on them. We await confirmation from government about their progress in drafting the necessary legislation for Nottingham, Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe.

At the earliest opportunity, we will publish details of the measures and package of support.”
