Unlicensed driver charged after man dies in Pentagon Island collision

A man has been charged with causing death by careless driving after a fatal collision on the Pentagon Island in Derby.

Officers were called to reports that Grant Sturgess had been involved in a collision on the Pentagon Island in Derby at around 8pm on Sunday 12 November.

The 31-year-old, who was from Derby, died at the scene of the incident, near to the entrance to Derbyshire County Cricket Club.

A 30-year-old man was arrested on Thursday 16 November and was been charged on 18 November with four offences:

Causing death by careless driving
Failing to stop at the scene of a collision
Failing to report a collision
Causing death while driving while un-licensed

He appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court today where he was remanded to prison to appear at Derby Crown Court on 18 December.
