Update on Nottingham St George’s Day Parade 2023 from the society in Radford

The parade isn’t taking place this year.

This update explains the reasons for this year’s event not being held:

The team at The Royal Society of St.George Radford Branch said:

After lengthy discussions with the committee of the Branch we have decided not to go ahead with our St. George’s Day parade this year.
However we will still celebrate the day with localised events within certain establishments.
We have come to this decision based on the ever increasing work load that is created by organising the Parade.

We understood when we started using the smaller route back in 2018 that this was an ideal alternative from the bigger parade which would cut the cost plus the amount of organising and planning dramatically.
As we planned last years Parade we understood that this would attract a bigger crowd than normal plus the added concern by the authorities regarding the covid situation with being in lock down thus meaning people were more prevalent to enjoy themselves.
So by heeding the advice  from the authorities we went ahead with the extra work load and planning plus extra costs we eventually succeeded in having a great Parade and event which I am surely you would agree?
So looking back over the last 3 small Parades (2018, 2019 & 2022) we have seen the workload and cost increase where the branch now believes this is not viable to ourselves and does not justify a small walk.
This does not mean we are giving up on future parades ( Big or small) because of our decision, this hiatus purely helps in so many ways to save and raise monies and can help by putting our efforts into events ( fundraisers) which would then help future parades.
Whilst we we have been organising the smaller parade, unfortunately our finances have stagnated and so as the fundraising efforts and we have lost focus with having the bigger Parade, so lets not dwell on the negativity of not having the smaller Parade buts let be positive and channel all our efforts to Get Nottingham back on the map with the big Parade!!
We hope you can understand and respect our decision and hopefully work together in the future.
