Fire crews remain at the scene of a major fire in Nottingham city centre this morning (Tuesday 6 October), with firefighters continuing to damp down the building and check for hidden pockets of fire.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews worked throughout the night to bring the blaze under control, with as many as 12 fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms involved at the height of the incident.

Around a dozen residents were evacuated and several neighbouring businesses have also been affected.
Richard Leighton, incident commander for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said crews received the initial call shortly after 10pm on Monday and arrived to find a fully developed fire.

He said: “Crews worked throughout the night – there was up to 12 fire engines at night. Two aerial ladder platforms worked really hard to bring the fire under control and extinguish it.
“At the minute we’re just currently damping down, looking for hot spots and any potential hidden fire spread that we haven’t seen.

“Once that’s completed then it’ll move on to the investigation phase.
“I’d say approximately about a dozen residents were evacuated, and several businesses have been affected either side of the building involved.”

Earlier this morning, the fire service said a reduced presence remained at the scene and that there had been no reports of any injuries.

The incident continues to cause disruption in the city centre.
NET Nottingham Tram services remain suspended in both directions between Theatre Royal and Old Market Square, while roads around the scene have reopened with traffic restricted to one lane.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes where possible, with significant traffic disruption expected.
A fire investigation is due to begin once crews have completed damping down and are satisfied there is no remaining hidden fire spread.
