Updates: Police statement: Suspicious package incident near Nottingham Station – buildings evacuated – avoid area

Emergency services are at the scene.

5:30 pm Nottinghamshire Police – ‘The earlier road closures in Nottingham city centre have now been lifted. We would like thank the public for their patience and understanding while the incident was safely resolved.’

5:30 pm – Nottingham City Transport – Canal Street has re-opened, with Orange 34/C and Red 45 back to their normal route.

A police cordon is currently in place near Nottingham Train Station while officers and partner agencies investigate a suspicious package.

Canal Street is closed in both directions between London Road and Middle Hill.

Nottinghamshire Police said at 3:30 pm:

‘A police cordon is currently in place near Nottingham Train Station while officers manage an ongoing incident with partner agencies.

‘People are advised to avoid the Station Street, Canal Street, Middle Hill, Midland Train Station and Trent Street areas while officers investigate further.

‘Surrounding buildings are in the process of being evacuated, while roads in the near vicinity have been blocked off.

‘The incident is expected to cause some traffic issues, with the rail and tram network likely to be affected for some time.

‘We’d like to thank the public in advance for their patience.’

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said at 3:24 pm on Friday 25 July:

‘There is an ongoing incident in the city centre, around Nottingham Station.

‘Please avoid the area.’

‘We currently have no tram service between Old Market Sq & Queens Walk / NG2 in both directions due to a Police incident. Please allow extra time when planning your journey.’
