Victoria Embankment Paddling Pool testing begins ahead of opening

Nottingham City Council announces the latest progress on rejuvenating Victoria Embankment Paddling Pool, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Nottingham City Council said on Tuesday 15 April:

‘Exciting times at the Victoria Embankment Paddling Pool!

‘The jets were on and the pool was being filled (just temporarily for testing!) – a real sign of progress. We’re getting closer to welcoming you back for splashing fun!’

As well as the much loved paddling pool there will also be new and improved features to enhance the experience for all visitors.

Works so far include:

  • The splash pad level has been raised and filled to provide a smooth, even surface.
  • A brand-new drainage system, including new stormwater connections, has been completed.
  • A large underground storage tank, roughly the size of a small van, has been installed to store and treat water used at the paddling pool.
  • Due to last year’s weather conditions, waterproofing works were postponed until the spring when a longer dry period allowed them to resume.
  • Community-driven enhancements, including bulb planting by volunteers and the planting of apple trees, have added a touch of nature.
  • Additional beautification efforts such as a new mural, bench rebuilding and painting, turf releveling and reseeding, and new hedge planting have transformed the space.
  • A new vehicle gate has been installed for better accessibility.
  • The full repaint of the fencing is nearly complete, with the final touches to be finished once the contractors remove their fences.

A spokesperson said:

‘The end of the works is now well in sight –  we will then be able to do the system commissioning, testing, and programming of all the electrical and drainage systems. Which means we are well on the way for a late Spring opening – watch this space!’

Councillor Sam Lux, Executive Member for Carbon Reduction, Leisure and Culture said: “We are incredibly excited about the transformation of this space and the new amenities it brings to our community. This initiative is a testament to our dedication to providing high-quality, inclusive, and engaging public spaces for everyone.”
