Council shake-up: Every town and village set to join expanded Nottingham

Dozens of towns and villages across Rushcliffe, Broxtowe and Gedling are set to become part of an expanded Nottingham authority under the Government’s plans for local government reorganisation.

The proposals would abolish all nine existing city, county, district and borough councils across Nottinghamshire and replace them with two new unitary authorities responsible for delivering local services.

West Bridgford, Beeston, Arnold and surrounding communities are among the areas due to join Nottingham in the new authority, while the remainder of the county would form a second council. The changes are expected to take place gradually, with the new councils planned to become fully operational in 2028.
