Ruth Edwards has launched her annual Best Local Shop and Best Pub in Rushcliffe competitions to celebrate Small Business Saturday.
Residents are asked to nominate and vote for their favourite independent shop and the pub they love most.
These local businesses are the lifeblood of our highstreets and the backbone to many local communities. Ruth wants to celebrate their achievements and how much they mean to people.
People can vote online and the winner and two runners up from each competition will be announced on Small Business Saturday (2nd December). Previous winners include the Air Hostess in Tollerton, and the Plough in Wysall for best pub, whilst the Good Weigh and News Shop Cotgrave took home the best shop awards in recent years.
Small Business Saturday is a grassroots campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to shop locally. Small businesses are a vital part our economy and community, that is why the Government has supported pubs by increasing “draught relief” from August, making the rate of duty on draught beer and cider up to 11 pence lower for pubs than the charge on cans or bottles bought in a supermarket.
The Government has also expanded the definition of a small business, from those businesses with under 250 employees to those with under 500. This has resulted in costs being cut for nearly 40,000 businesses as they become exempt from business regulations that apply to larger firms.
Ruth said “We are really fortunate to benefit from so many fantastic local shops and pubs in Rushcliffe. I hold this annual competition as an opportunity to highlight the great work they do and the unique offers they bring to our high streets. It is always great to see the variety of different pubs and shops nominated over the years. It’s your votes that pick the winners, so please do click on the links below and cast your votes”
You can vote now for your favourite pub here – the competition will run until the 30th November: https://www.ruthedwards.org.
The competition covers pubs and shops in the constituency of Rushcliffe.
Winners are decided on the basis of the number of votes cast by the public.
