Fire crews carried out six water rescues involving vehicles trapped in floodwater across Leicestershire during a 12-hour period on Saturday, including one incident involving young children.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called to incidents in Whitwick, Walcote, Countesthorpe and Leicester after vehicles became stranded in flooded roads.
In one of the rescues, young children were among the passengers inside a car caught in rising water. All incidents involved motorists driving into floodwater before becoming unable to continue.
The service said that while floodwater has largely drained away following recent heavy rainfall, a number of flood warnings remain in place in Barrow upon Soar, Hoby, Thrussington and Ratcliffe.
Fire officials warned that flooded roads are becoming an increasingly common issue and said crews are regularly being called to assist drivers who enter standing water despite the risks.
They added that such incidents place additional pressure on emergency service resources and can put both motorists and rescue crews in danger.
Motorists are being urged not to drive through floodwater, as vehicles can quickly lose traction or stall, leaving occupants at risk. The service also warned that drivers who knowingly enter floodwater may find damage to their vehicles is not covered by insurance.
