Nottingham City Transport (NCT) confirmed that one of its biogas buses, operating on the Sky Blue 60 service, caught fire on Woodborough Road on Tuesday evening, 1 September .
The driver and all passengers were safely evacuated from the vehicle, and no injuries were reported.
Photos taken at the scene showed flames engulfing the bus as emergency crews tackled the blaze.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to a “large vehicle fire” at 6.20pm. Two crews from Stockhill and one from Arnold attended, with four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguishing the fire.
Woodborough Road was closed between Mapperley and Nottingham city centre while the incident was dealt with. NCT reported delays to its Sky Blue 60 and 61 services at around 6.45pm.
In an update, an NCT spokesperson said: “On Tuesday 1 September, one of our biogas buses operating on Sky Blue Line 60 caught fire on Woodborough Road.
“The driver and all passengers were safely evacuated, and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service were promptly called and attended. There are no reported casualties.
“Our team attended the scene immediately following the incident. We are working closely with all relevant agencies to determine the cause of the fire.
“Our thoughts are with all affected and we thank our driver for their quick response.”
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
