Warning to secure loads after fallen ratchet strap collected by police officer in A46 Cotgrave

An officer from Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Policing team recovered this ratchet strap from the A46 near Cotgrave before it caused damage or a puncture.

A reminder to anyone carrying loads, towing trailers, driving car transporters, collecting scrap metal or moving goods that you must secure your load and stow equipment properly. Items falling from vehicles can have fatal consequences for other road users.

Any driver stopped with an insecure load could be committing a number of offences including the below.

Use a Motor vehicle / trailer with equipment likely to cause danger of injury.

Contrary to section 40A of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and Schedule 2 to the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988.
Use on a road a motor vehicle / trailer with a load which was insecure / in a position likely to cause danger.
