Connaught House has served the town since 1993.
The business has been a regular on the Avenue selling chocolates and gifts.
The business on the corner of Central Avenue and Albert Road said in an update today:
‘After 29 years of serving West Bridgford, we have made the difficult decision to close down with immediate effect.
‘All of us at Connaught House will miss our customers, and we thank you most sincerely for your loyal custom.
‘We are sorry we won’t be able to say goodbye to you all personally.
‘Changes to shopping habits and increasing costs to operate have resulted in this decision.
‘No doubt another business will take over this location held by us over the last 29 years, and by Mr and Mrs Dann for the 30 years prior to us.
‘Whoever that is we wish them success and hope they offer something new on Central Avenue.
‘Thank you again and goodbye.’
Last year The Health Store and Locally Produced For You also closed because of rising costs.
The community reacted to the news with people sad at the closure with some of then below:

‘I will miss you all so much. What a terrible shame you have to close. Where is the nearest Connaught shop please? Good luck to all of you wonderful staff.’
‘What a sad year this is becoming in WB, such a lot of businesses closing 😭 Best wishes to all at Connaught House, you will definitely be missed!!!’
‘That’s such sad news. I have such lovely memories of shopping at Connaught House. I’ve only just put away our lovely Heartwood Creek Santa that I bought for my daughter’s first Christmas 21 years ago. He’ll always be our most special Christmas decoration.
All the very best for the future..’
