Two main West Bridgford roads to be resurfaced as concerns raised over winter pothole response

Two key routes in West Bridgford will be resurfaced under new county council plans.

As part of the latest yearly programme of works announced by Nottinghamshire County Council, Loughborough Road, from Wilford Lane to the Rugby Road junction, and Melton Road, from Stamford Road towards Blackbird Crescent in Edwalton, will see resurfacing works take place.

The County Council has also announced that it will be preparing a Winter Mitigation Plan, something which was in place for the previous winter under the previous Conservative administration.

County Cllr Hari Om of West Bridgford West Division says the decision by the new Reform administration not to do this was a huge mistake:

“We have all seen our roads deteriorate badly over the winter, and it was a relatively mild winter compared to previous years.

“Under the Conservatives, millions of pounds were put into winter preventative maintenance, and the decision not to do this for this winter has left our roads in a shocking state.

I welcome the funding for Loughborough Road, my predecessor Cllr Gordon Wheeler, initially pushed for this road to be resurfaced, and I have continued that lobbying. There are many others we need doing, and I will continue making the case for them to be done.”

County Cllr Jonathan Wheeler of West Bridgford South Division added:

“I am pleased that a further section of Melton Road is receiving resurfacing work, following the investment I secured last year for the southern section of Melton Road. One of the biggest issues we have seen this winter is the time it has taken to inspect and fix potholes.

“The ‘right first time’ approach seems to have been abandoned; I had a pothole fixed on Melton Gardens, and others around it were left for a later date despite being marked up for repair. We need resources to be used correctly, and I will be calling for proper repairs and a whole-road approach to be undertaken.”
