West Bridgford shoplifter given ten week jail sentence

A 42-year-old man was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison at Nottingham Magistrates Court on Wednesday 26th April 2023.

The suspect was arrested by officers from Operation Compass in Nottingham city centre on Tuesday 25 April for breaching his Criminal Behaviour Order which prohibits him from entering Nottingham.

At the time of his arrest, Cawthorne was also found to be in possession of a quantity of class B drugs and was later further arrested for a shop theft in West Bridgford where he had been identified from CCTV by the arresting officer.

Cawthorne pleaded guilty to all of these offences and the sentence given related to these offences.

Whilst in Police custody Cawthorne assaulted three members of Police staff by throwing liquid at them.

He was given a two-week prison sentence for each of these offences which will be served concurrently with the other sentence given.

Criminal Behaviour Orders are issued in a court off the back of a criminal conviction in order to act as a deterrent to repeat offenders.

They can include restrictions around specific behaviours and prohibit individuals from entering certain locations in order to deter them from committing further offences at these locations.
