A police response to an ongoing break-in at an elderly woman’s home resulted in the arrest of a suspect inside the property.
Operational Support officers were on patrol in Ruddington Lane when they heard word over the radio that a burglary was in progress nearby.
A man reportedly invited himself into a house in the Wilford area, with the frightened owner – a woman in her 80s – leaving to phone her family.
When the vulnerable victim went outside, the intruder reportedly responded by locking the door and looking through the house for items to steal.
Within a few minutes of the burglary being reported, around 8.40pm on Tuesday (14 May), the patrolling officers arrived and found the uninvited guest inside the house.
A 25-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Inspector Tim Ringer said: “This must’ve been a very distressing experience for the homeowner – a vulnerable woman in her 80s.
“Thanks to the rapid response of officers who were in the vicinity at the time, we were able to apprehend a suspect inside the house targeted just a few minutes later.
“Burglary is an incredibly serious offence that warrants the kind of robust response our officers demonstrated during this incident.
“This type of behaviour will never be tolerated by Nottinghamshire Police and any wannabe burglars should expect to find themselves brought into custody.”
