Work begins on new 32-bed addiction treatment facility at former Nottingham Fire HQ

Work has started on a new purpose-built addiction treatment facility in Nottingham.

Delamere, which opened its first residential treatment centre in Cheshire in 2020, said the Nottingham site will become its second facility and will support people experiencing substance misuse, burnout and behavioural addiction.

The site is at the former Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service HQ in Bestwood.

The new centre will include 32 en-suite rooms and is expected to support up to 416 guests a year once open.

The facility will be set within 4.7 hectares and will include guest accommodation, therapy spaces, landscaped courtyards and quiet areas for reflection.

Plans for the site also include an on-site gym and spa, communal spaces and gardens. Delamere said the centre has been designed to offer privacy and calm for people receiving treatment.

The company said its treatment model combines clinical care, therapy and holistic practices, including equine therapy, breathwork and cold-water therapy.

A breaking ground ceremony was due to take place at the Nottingham site on Monday 22 June. Work will continue with the aim of opening the facility to guests by the end of 2027.

Martin Preston, founder and chief executive of Delamere, said: “This is a huge moment for Delamere and for the people and families we exist to support.

“Delamere was created because we believed addiction treatment needed to change. Too often, people experiencing addiction are met with shame, judgement or environments that feel clinical and intimidating. We wanted to create something different: compassionate, evidence-led treatment in a place where guests feel safe, respected and able to begin the work of recovery.

“Our Cheshire site proved that a purpose-built environment, clinical expertise, therapeutic care, holistic practice and long-term aftercare can come together to create a different kind of recovery experience.

“Nottingham is the next step in that journey. It allows us to support more people, more families and more communities at a time when the need for high-quality addiction treatment and behavioural health support has never been clearer.

“This is not simply about opening more beds. It is about bringing the Delamere model to more people: a model built on compassion, dignity, expertise and the belief that anyone can recover with the right help.”

Delamere was founded in 2017 and opened its first purpose-built facility in Cheshire in March 2020. It says almost 1,500 guests have completed its residential programme since then.

Its programme is structured around four stages: stopping harmful behaviours, starting to address underlying psychological and emotional factors, growing healthier coping strategies and life skills, and supporting long-term recovery.
