Worker throws himself out of own van as it was stolen and driven away

Police say they have charged a suspect after a worker reportedly jumped out of his own van when it was stolen.

The victim was working in the back of his van when he heard someone get in the driver’s seat before driving off at speed.

He managed to throw himself out of his van onto the roadside, suffering pain to his leg.

The van doors were open and his tools spilled out onto the road, causing damage to them, as the vehicle headed off.

Inquiries were quickly carried out into the reported theft which happened in Bridge Place, Worksop, around 2.45pm on Thursday 22 February 2024.

It led to police arresting a suspect on Saturday morning (24 February) in connection with the incident.

The investigation was by the proactive Bassetlaw Operation Reacher team which led to the arrest and charges.

A 36-year-old man from Worksop, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and possession of a Class B drug, namely Mamba.

He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday (26 February 2024).

He was granted conditional bail, including that he adheres to an electronically monitored curfew between 6am and 6pm, and is next due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 25 March 2024.
